Cornish Aromatic
Pickling
1813 Hayle, Cornwall
Self-Sterile (needs a pollinator)
Mid Harvester – October
Once one of Cornwall’s most favourite apples due to its exceptional qualities (or be either pickled or can be stored until early February if must). The canopy is low, dense & strong so can easily withstand the Atlantic gales, has a good tolerance to most diseases including scab / canker & almost prefers to grow in damp, humid conditions.
The apples themselves are small, red/green skinned flesh & a slight russet to the crown. Even though named ‘sweet lark’, they are in fact a very dry, sweet-tart apple with unfavourable russet texture hence the need to be skinned before consumption
