Slack-mi-Girdle
Cider, Jelly, Crumble
1800’s Devon
Self-sterile (needs 2 pollinators)
Late Harvester – November (keeps on the tree until January)
Sport of the famous Devonshire Cider apple ‘Woodbine’. Its name refers to slacking one girdle to be able to drink copious amounts. (a girdle being a snug form-fitting undergarment used to support & shape the lower torso.)
A lovely looking flat apple, overall yellow-green with bright red sun blushes.
A very sweet cider apple often used in bittersweet cider blends to curb the tartness somewhat. You can even make this in a blackberry & apple crumble without the need to add additional sugar to the mix.
Even though the fruit ripens late, the blossom is quite early so would benefit from some crab apples nearby.
